Literature Review on Digital Economy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Writing Review on Digital Economy - Essay Example Specialists report that during the hour of acquaintance of this device with the world, policymakers investigated its chance creation a huge effect, yet futile. This disappointment of IT became strengthened again during the 1990s, when IT started to alter the world economy yet again dove into debacle with the â€Å"dot-bomb† implosion, the 2001 downturn, and the NASDAQ breakdown. These debacles have prompted specialists and policymakers relinquish trust in its idea and advanced upset. Nicholas Carr (2003, pp. 10) assessed this innovative apparatus by guaranteeing that the enhancements that it could achieve had either as of now been presented, or were simultaneously. This announcement spoke to the overarching perspective on IT around then, as individuals had begun thinking of it as immaterial for singular firms just as the general economy. This determination was an untimely and off base one; as the innovation went on to totally reform the economy considerably more than starting expectation. This writing audit intends to break down the purposes for this wavering certainty during these occasions. As one can see on the planet today, advanced improvement in the economy is at a level that far surpasses prior gauges. Nonetheless, in opposition to forecasts, this transformation has not come to fruition because of an ascent in web based business and other web related marvel. Rather, the primary factor behind this upheaval was the manner in which individuals have figured out how to receive IT in pretty much every part of life, inside just as outside work. This carefully empowered economy was then ready to accomplish tremendous development and success in each angle: training, business, exchange, just as money related approach. One enormous factor behind this quickened development was the speculation that organizations made in programming, equipment, just as administrations identified with IT and interchanges. It helped efficiency up to multiple times more than other capital, for example, structures and plants could. The huge job of IT in this major monetary improvement is clear in the way that sixty-seven percent of all out factor profitability development during the time of 1995 and 2002 was because of IT usage in the US (Jorgenson et al, 2005). It likewise helped the work profitability in creating countries, and it is viewed as the fundamental driver behind advancement and efficiency development in the ongoing years. Regardless of the significant commitments of IT to the economy, very little research has gone into investigating the profundities of this commitment. Through this writing audit, we endeavor to do this investigation. All the more explicitly, we will be investigating the commitments of IT in ‘improving the nature of products and ventures. A typical misguided judgment is that the extent of advanced economy is constrained to web based business. Its genuine degree remembers all utilizations of innovation for the economy, including that of eq uipment, applications, and broadcast communications. Every one of these devices of IT has significant applications in territories, for example, intercompany exchanges, information the board, interior procedures in associations and seller client relations. These advantages apply to firms whether or not they have a place with the open division or the private segment. The insurgency to the economy that data innovation has realized is practically identical to the transformation that solidified steel brought to the ventures a century back, when it showed them how to build steel instruments that helped support profitability hugely. Moreover, it is hard to get a handle on the genuine inescapability of IT on the planet. It not just exists in innovative

Can any anyone explain why in TV appears and in such a significant number of motion pictures that ladies are quite often generalized somehow? There are such a large number of network shows and films out there that sabotage ladies from multiple points of view. Darren in â€Å"Bewitched† is likewise attempting to stifle Samantha’s enchantment to make her the ideal house spouse and she doesn’t attempt to stop him. Indeed, she does all that she can to follow all his desires just so he’ll be glad. We will compose a custom article test on Typification of Women on Tv and in Movies or on the other hand any comparative theme just for you Request Now In â€Å"The Client List†, Riley is depicted as a sex object. It gives the feeling that the main thing ladies can do is sell their body for sex. At that point there is Mary Jane from â€Å"Spiderman† who in every case needs saved by Spiderman, giving the feeling that ladies are defenseless and consistently need a man around to make all the difference. Let’s not overlook â€Å"The Scorpion King† where lord Memnon utilizes his Sorceress for his very own plan. Will watching motion pictures and shows, for example, these influence how young ladies see themselves? The Scorpion King is an essential guide to the generalization of ladies in motion pictures. The primary female character, the sorceress, has been utilized as long as she can remember by King Memnon. He’s kept her detainee since she was a youngster to utilize her dreams to give him the high ground in fight. He constrains her to have a dream each day and afterward let him know whether he is going to win or lose his next fight with the goal that he can pick his fights and be increasingly effective in his objective to govern everything. At a certain point in the film, Memnon fundamentally tells the Sorcerer that when he’s done utilizing her for her dreams he’s going to begin utilizing her for his own sexual delight. The Sorcerer is glad to be abducted by Matheyus. She later discloses to him that she just went with him so eagerly on the grounds that Memnon kept her detainee since she was a kid. She was being utilized as long as she can remember by a man that simply needed to be dreaded by everybody and rule everything. It depicts society’s run of the mill generalization of ladies. Do everything the man needs and please him in any capacity you can without a solitary objection. The Sorcerer makes it clear that she’d much rather remain with Matheyus, the man who takes steps to execute her, than return to Memnon, the man who has been utilizing her for such a long time. This is on the grounds that in the brief timeframe that she’s been with Matheyus, she has just been dealt with better that she has been as long as she can remember. Memnon has ceaselessly utilized the Sorceress to give himself a bit of leeway in fight. This is a case of the common male figure generalizing a lady and utilizing her to get what he needs. He treats her like she’s just a bit of his property. As per Gloria Steinem, â€Å"A female youngster is left to accept that, in any event, when her body is as large as her soul, she will at present be assisting with minor errands, valuing the achievements of others, and holding on to be rescued† (356). This statement assists with disclosing the Sorcerers need to get away yet additionally her test in the way that she must have someone’s help to escape Memnon. Also, nothing unexpected, it must be a man’s help since she wouldn’t have had the option to escape all alone. The Sorcerer additionally wants to escape after Memnon illuminates her regarding his arrangement to utilize her for his own sexual joy when he’s done utilizing her for her dreams. As indicated by Christine Seifert, â€Å"Digging into Edward’s mind fortifies the old generalization that underneath everything, even the best folks are ascertaining vampires, making sense of acceptable behavior on their manly urges† (346-7). This statement assists with disclosing Memnon’s battles to exploit the Sorcerer in light of the fact that as indicated by a fantasy spread by the Sorcerer’s progenitors, the first run through any sorceress has intercourse she will lose her endowment of foreknowledge. So on the off chance that he needs to maintain his favorable position in fight, he needs to battle his common male inclinations. Watching motion pictures and shows, for example, these can’t be positively affecting more youthful young ladies. They utilize female jobs that they see on TV and in motion pictures as good examples the same amount of as they utilize the ladies around them as good examples. So what are they assume to think when they see things like that? How are they going to act in the event that they use ladies like that as a good example? Is it accurate to say that they are going to realize that that’s simply imagine and ladies aren’t truly like that? Or on the other hand would they say they are going to feel that they have to do everything a man wishes without a solitary grievance just to keep them upbeat, regardless? It is safe to say that they are going to believe that they need to trust that the ideal man will safeguard them when things become awful in a relasionship? It’s questions like these that we don’t have the responses to that we should stress generally over. What are young ladies gaining from TV? Works Cited Seifert, Christine. â€Å"Bite Me! Buster Keatons The Cameraman :: essays research papers

The Cameraman (Rough Draft) The Cameraman (1928), a MGM Buster Keaton highlight, is one of the last genuinely extraordinary element movies of the quiet time. From the masterful equalization it finds between the effortlessness of a very natural storyline and the unpredictability of method and cinematography, to the extremely engaging and enrapturing exhibitions of its on-screen characters, the film that was almost lost to the archives of movie history is a multi-faceted diamond that is upbeat to watch. Effortlessness is one of the huge keys to the achievement of The Cameraman. The basic plot is of the well established at this point respectable sort (â€Å"hero-sees-young lady, is-knocked-off-feet, makes a huge effort to-be-saw, getting-in a tough situation en-route†). It has Buster attempting to get a break as a cameraman into the newsreel branch of a popular studio (MGM, and win the expressions of love of the workplace secretary, Sally, played by a wonderful Marceline Day. His undertakings land him in a wide range of uproarious circumstances, incorporating a few comical fights with the sentimental adversary, a gaudy â€Å"made† newsman played by Harry Goodwin. The topical components remain basic too. Sharp with skepticism, incongruity raises its entertaining head over and over. These bits of the film are conveyed with immaculate planning, bound with a little reality. One such occurrence is close to the last finish of film when Buster, in a challenging trick, spares S ally from suffocating. He leaves her oblivious on the shore quickly while he hurries into a drug store simple yards away to get something to support her. During those couple of seconds, she stirs, and Buster’s rival, who had deserted her to suffocate so as to spare his own skin, stumbles upon her similarly as she opens her eyes. She thinks he has spared her from certain danger and Buster rises up out of the medication store with swathes and so forth without a moment to spare to see them walk around into the nightfall, affectionately intertwined. Another such second comes when Buster has experienced all sorts of difficulties to get film of a group war going on in the city lanes, just to find that he had never stacked film into his camera. Simple turns, for example, these loan to the simple, fun watching that The Cameraman is. There is not a single significantly profound imagery in sight, and the absence of any endeavor at intriguing cultural portrayals truly loan to an effecti ve bundle. This should be parody, and a heavenly one it is. Despite the fact that straightforward, the plot of The Cameraman is superbly built.

A slightly snarkier guide to visitors

A slightly snarkier guide to visitors Since its summer tour season and my path to work keeps getting interrupted by herdlike groups of tourists each morning, I thought it would be a nice time to talk about MITs campus organization. My goal is to teach you enough of the basics that you dont look like a total tourist when you visit. All in good fun, of course. :) Step one of the dont look like a tourist guide is not to stand around like a moo cow in front of 77 Mass Ave. It may be the summer, but we students have places to be and things to discover, so kindly refrain from clogging up our path! Step two: This is our campus. You may notice that the buildings on this map have numbers on them. This is not an accident, nor is it just convenient map shorthand. We actually call buildings by their numbers here, and refer to rooms within buildings by their numbers. Its kind of bewildering at the outset, but it makes tons of sense once you understand the system. The room numbers make the most immediate sense, so Ill start there. At MIT, we refer to rooms in a format like this: 10-100 (the Admissions Reception Center). This means that the room is in building 10, on the first floor, room 00. The Admissions Office is in 3-108, which is in building 3, on the first floor, room 08. Main campus is considered to be the irregular pentagon of land bordered by Ames Street on the east, Memorial Drive on the south, Massachusetts Avenue (Mass Ave to the natives) on the west, the railroad tracks on the northwest, and Main Street on the northeast. Buildings outside this pentagon have a letter in front of their building number the medical building is E25, the student center is W20. Buildings on main campus are numbered in a more or less logical system. Generally speaking, numbers are odd on the west side of building 10 and even on the east side of building 10. Numbers are small near the river and get larger as one heads north. There are some oddities, but thats a good general rule. Step three: Start with the Infinite. The Infinite Corridor is the hallway which passes through several of MITs main academic buildings. Its a great thing for lost visitors in the summer and frozen students in the winter once you get to the Infinite in the winter, you very rarely have to go outside again until you need to go home. Most of the time, Bostons weather is lovely and/or tolerable, but there are certain days in January when the connectedness of the Infinite just seems like a gift from the god of poor frozen college kids. The main part of the Infinite runs from building 7 through buildings 3, 10, and 4 to building 8. At this point, you can take a jag left, then right, and find yourself walking through buildings 16, 56, and 66; this route isnt really considered the Infinite, but is still a long straight line of interconnected buildings with helpful signs. Step four: Know the natives, and dont be a shallow jerk. I heard a visitor say once that the people at MIT looked unhappy and busy, which struck me as a) infuriating, and b) as a ridiculous generalization. See, when you visit, there will be a lot of people roaming MITs campus. MIT is kind of a miniature city there are about 4000 undergrads (only about a third to a half of whom are here for the summer, mostly doing research or interning at Boston companies), about 6000 grad students, about about 10000 faculty and staff members. Most of the people that you see in the halls arent undergrads, so dont base your perceptions of MIT on the people you see in the halls base them on the people that you meet. If you see somebody who looks like an undergrad, stop him or her and ask a few questions about MIT life. If he or she is an undergrad, Im sure s/hell be happy to oblige. Part two of not being a shallow jerk is to realize that the campus architecture will (really) have zero impact on your happiness as a student. MITs campus is in the middle of the city, and a lot of it is made out of concrete. This does not mean you cant find secluded green spots where you can sit and enjoy life. You shouldnt be picking your school based on something as silly as architecture. Program quality, yes. Personality of the student body, yes. Weather, if youre a wuss. But campus architecture? Weird. Step five: Putting it all together. So when you visit, youre going to get out of my way when Im heading to the lab, know the numbering system, start with the Infinite Corridor, know whos an undergrad and whos a bitter grad student, and take in the sights without being shallow. Yay!

The Autobiography of Malcom X as Told to Alex Haley Essay

Statement of Purpose Alex Haley is the author of the book. The central theme of the book is to reflect the perspective of a black man in an era that called for equality struggles between races in the United States while battling views on racism and his rise and fall within the Nation of Islam religion. The author’s purpose for writing the book was for the reader to gain knowledge of Malcolm X as an individual and not as a phenomenon. He wanted to deliver truths that spanned his brief lifetime. Alex Haley’s qualifications to write the book were simply that he was a black man in America during the same time span as Malcolm X and his earlier work had focused on the struggles of African Americans in the United States in particular. This revelation prompted a holy journey that yet again changed Malcolm’s thought process that was evident at the end of his life. Critique This autobiography of Malcolm X was spellbinding. My high school was the black ghetto of Roxbury, Massachusetts. My college was in the streets of Harlem, and my masters was taken in prison† is just amazing. This book did not contain any illustrations, pictures, or tables. The author was extremely descriptive in telling the story. His writing style made the reader to become a part of the story telling experience. I could visualize the experiences and places that were included in the book. Women Archetypes in Greek Ancient Pantheon

Women Archetypes in Greek Ancient Pantheon The notion of an archetype is rather complicated and has multiple layers, since it is widely used in many spheres of modern psychology and culture. The definition of the term has undergone several changes in the course of the cultural evolution. Within the frames of the current essay, it is possible to define an archetype as a generic, cumulative image, possessing some certain characteristic features. Before our civilization switched to the patriarchal social systems with male gods, there existed a single and united image of a Woman – the Great Goddess, who was the symbol of life and death, closely related to the nature and fertility. She was responsible for the creative power of life, as well as for the destructive forces. In the Greek pantheon there existed 7 goddesses, who represented the most common archetypical models of female behaviors. Aphrodite, Demeter and Hera were the most powerful ones. They had more deep connection with the Great Goddess archetype, than the other four. Aphrodite is a weaker variant of the Great Goddess in her fertility avatar. In Demeter we can easily find her Mother feature, whereas Hera is the echo of the Great Goddess as the Heaven Empress. Altogether they represent irresistible forces in every woman’s soul that make her such a unique creature as she is. Artemis, Athena and Hestia are so-called Virgin goddesses. They represent female independence. They are not apt to love or emotional attachment, considering these outpouring to be distracting for their major activities, and express female need for independence and social life. Persephone is the personification of a Daughter – a young woman, who is still on her way to emotional maturity. Thus, all these archetypes are inevitable components of the psychical structure of a woman.

Literature Review Related to Self-Efficacy Among Students...

Introduction The concept of self-efficacy is grounded in Bandura’s (1977) social learning theory. In essence, one having strong self-efficacy experience increase in motivation, accomplishment, and personal well-being ( Bandura, 1994). Those with a low sense of self-efficacy, on the other hand, often suffer stress and depression; unbelieving of their capabilities and often succumbed to failure (Bandura, 1994). The Journey Columbus’s Finding Developed Through the Uncovering of San Salvador in 1492 Christopher Columbus’s adventitious finding of San Salvador led to the initial European â€Å"discovery† of the New World. Columbus, an Italian explorer, attempted to sail west from Spain to India, funded by King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Isabella of Castile (Christopher Columbus’s Exploration). He sailed west using three boats: the Nià ±a, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria (Christopher Columbus the Italian Explorer). As soon as they landed, Columbus claimed the land for Spain, and named it San Salvador which means Holy Spirit, acknowledging that God’s guidance and will led them to the Indies (Christopher Columbus the Italian Explorer). Also at this time, the Tainos greeted them kindly, and some even swam miles offshore to meet them as they were approaching (Dyson 162). The Tainos believed that the newcomers came from the heavens after seeing their clothing, weaponry, and boats, and as it was their custom, they treated the strangers with the utmost respect and with friendliness (Dyson 162). The natives gave the travelers food, water, and gifts to exhibit their peacefulness and camaraderie. Columbus perceived their hospitality, and began trading with them which the Tainos recognized as the principle of reciprocity (Wadsworth Cengage Learning 5). Conflict Presented in of Mice and Men Free Essays

Of Mice and Men is set in America during the years of the Great Depression. The depression, that was caused by the Wall Street Crash 1929, left people without a job or house. People had barely enough money to afford necessities such as, food, water and clothes. We will write a custom essay sample on Conflict Presented in of Mice and Men or any similar topic only for you Order Now The pressures of the Great Depression led to many different forms of conflict. Steinbeck shows a variety of these conflicts throughout the novella. One form of conflict shown in the novella is Jealousy. The fact that Lennie is a ‘huge man’, results in Curley’s jealousy towards Lennie. While describing Curley, Slim says, ‘He’s alla time picking scraps with big guys. Kind of like he’s mad at ’em because he aint a big guy’. This foreshadows the fight between Curley and Lennie in which Lennie crushes Curley’s hand. The adjective ‘mad’ connotes the irrationality of Curley’s simmering anger. Curley’s covetousness towards Lennie’s size represents that the world of Dust bowl America was a harsh and unforgiving place, where physical strength was especially valuable. The adjective ‘mad’ has specific connotations which is why, Steinbeck chooses to use ‘mad’ rather than a word such as, angry to maybe suggest that Curley is slightly insane for picking fights with men considerably bigger and most likely stronger than him. ‘Mad’ also means that Curley is simply angry towards taller men because he envies them. This description of Curley makes the reader think of Curley as an insecure person as, the description shows that he feels inferior because of his diminutive stature. Resentment is also shown in scenes of conflict. George shows resentment towards Lennie as a consequence of Lennie losing him his job; that is so significant to achieving his desires. George says, ‘I got you! You can’t keep a job and you lose me ever’ job I get. ‘ The repetition of the word ‘you’ demonstrates that George sees Lennie as the cause of the conflict and as the person who endangers his chances of achieving his dreams. The abbreviation of the word every with ‘ever† implies that George is almost spitting out his words due to the aggravation that he feels. George loses his temper with Lennie despite the fact that Lennie is George’s best friend. This portrays the great importance of having a job during Different conflicts or events can bring out certain characteristics in people. The novel Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck has numerous conflicts that bring out the protagonist’s innermost characteristic, kindheartedness. George brings out this characteristic through the conflicts between Lennie and himself. Judging him from most of his words, he does not seem like a caring person, however, it is through his actions that verify that he is. One example of this man versus himself conflict is when George has to kill Lennie. However, the main conflict of this novel is man versus man, which basically goes on throughout the entire novel, while George watches after Lennie; The majority of George’s time is devoted to looking after Lennie, whose faults prevent George from working toward his dream, or even living the life of a typical rancher. Based George’s selflessness, and devotion to Lennie, George Milton is an extremely compassionate person. Throughout the book, George has explicitly whined that Lennie is a real pain. He dreams of what he could do if not caring for his mentally handicapped friend, and pictures himself not burdened by Lennie. â€Å"‘ You get in trouble. You do bad things and I got to get you out. ‘ His voice rose nearly to a shout. ‘You crazy son-of-a-bitch. You keep me in hot water all of the time. ‘† Through this passage, you can clearly see George’s feelings towards Lennie; he gets sick of having to deal with a man with the mentality of a child. However, in the innermost part, he really cares for him because he never truly leaves him, he watches out for him and guides him through life. Imagine if you had just gotten the part of a play that you have been waiting all of your life to get, you feel as if your dreams had just started to take its roots; when suddenly, your friend messes up his role and is fired, and as a result, you to have to leave too, so he won’t be alone, well, that is the case with Lennie and George. You have to be as incredibly strong minded and kindhearted as George in order to take care of not only yourself, but also a man with the mentality of a child as well. Consequently, most people go crazy having to repeat themselves more than three times, as for George whom had to repeat himself constantly, and at times, that still did not cut it. This brings me to the next major conflict of the novel, man versus himself. At the end of this novel, when George comes across another crisis that Lennie has caused and, he finds himself stuck, because, for the first time, he can’t get Lennie out of the awful situation that he has got himself into, leaving him no other choice but to kill his dearest companion. George raised the gun and steadied it, and he brought the muzzle of it close to the back of Lennie’s head. The hand shook violently, but his face set and his hand steadied. † Through this passage, you can see that George was struggling, not wanting to kill Lennie, however, he unfortunately had to kill him for everyone’s benefit, including his own. This situation resembles cheating on a test; you do not want to cheat, but you would be in trouble by your parents if you do not pass. George had to protect Lennie one last time; as much as it would hurt, George knew that if he did not kill Lennie himself, Curley and the rest of the workers at the ranch would have found Lennie and given him a more painful and severe death George gave him. Based on George committing an act that will haunt him for the rest of his life, just to give his dearest companion Lennie a more serene death than a brutal one proves that, at heart, George is an extremely empathetic person. Using a Self-Evaluative Essay Sample

Using a Self-Evaluative Essay SampleA self-evaluative essay sample can be a very helpful tool to help you make good use of your writing time. If you have a lot of writing on your plate, and some of it can seem like overkill, a self-evaluative essay sample can provide you with a concise, more focused version of your thoughts and feelings. And with writing samples, you can get feedback from other people who have also written similar essays. In fact, you can use a self-evaluative essay sample to try out different essay styles. Do you have a strong opinion about a certain subject or topic? How about some comments that have been added by other people, about a topic that you have some knowledge of? Can you see any holes in your idea, or do you agree with the comment, but want to refine it to make it clearer? These essays are very useful for those who have a few hundred words to fill up. It's better to make these essay samples a part of your academic writing assignments, rather than just fill ing the rest of your essay with too much information. When you decide to make an essay, make sure that you give a variety of reasons for the essay. Your ideas should go beyond the topic that you are writing about, so that you can also offer your opinion of the subject in general.Your first reason may not necessarily relate to the subject matter, but it will be valuable for your review of the material. For example, if you write about music, but are unsure of what you like about it, you can choose to write about what you don't like, or why you like it so much.Writing a self-evaluative essay sample will take some time. It can take you several months to write all of the required topics, and many different topics will require multiple sections to get across your ideas. You will need to be diligent, or you may end up with several versions of the same essay, with one or two sections missing. Be sure to devote as much time as possible to writing, as well as doing other important things in l ife, such as making good decisions about work and life. However, if you do decide to use a self-evaluative essay sample, make sure that you write a lot of these before you go to print. By doing this, you will ensure that you get a more focused version of yourself. Remember that you don't necessarily have to go back and re-read everything you've written, so be sure to write each paragraph at least once.Overall, self-evaluation essays can help you make your essays more effective. Even if you think you know a lot about a particular topic, a self-evaluative essay sample can help you write better. If you spend enough time writing, you can produce a better version of yourself, and use a self-evaluative essay sample as a tool to help you make it a better essay.

Life Or Death Essays - Euthanasia, Medical Ethics, Perception

Life Or Death Essays - Euthanasia, Medical Ethics, Perception Life Or Death Life or Death The beliefs and views of our country are hypocritical and unjust. As we grow from a young child to a mature adult, we are taught many things such as that killing another human being is wrong, it is against the law and goes against most peoples religious beliefs. Yet, there are some instances when this rule does not seem to apply. If someone kills another in self-defense it is seen as an act of bravery, if a soldier kills an enemy in war it is seen as courageous and honorable. But who is to say that these acts are more justifiable than allowing someone who is in extreme pain and suffering to be given an opportunity to end their own lives with the help of another. As the world around us changes at an incredible rate, we must always ask ourselves if these changes are in our own best interest. The decisions that people make are always up for debate by anyone who has an opinion one way or another. The debate of euthanasia has been ongoing for many years and as of now, there is no end in s ight. There are many views on the topic of euthanasia, some people believe that it should be open to anyone who feels that their life is not worth living; while others think that there is no justifiable reason for euthanasia be allowed. These opposing sides have many different reasons for believing what they do, some reasons people give for euthanasia are intriguing and very thought provoking. Some people believe that a person with an incurable disease or severe disability that causes life to be racked with pain or so burdensome that a meaningful and desirable existence has ceased, then this person should be allowed to die. This conclusion should only be allowed after all other alternatives have been thoroughly considered. Another argument that is given in favor or euthanasia is that the role of the physician is to do whatever is best for their patient. This could mean that in some extreme situations the best answer might include hastening death upon the request of the dying. The job of a physician should always be to help their patient in any way possible. It is the duty as a professional to heal, prolong life, and to reduce suffering. In some extreme cases, when every other option is hopeless, the best service that a physician can render would be to help a person hasten death in order to relieve the unnecessary suffering they must go through. Another argument supporting the use of euthanasia is that everyone would benefit if it were legal to show mercy when death becomes preferable over life. With that in mind one must look at the families and loved ones of those who wish to end their extreme suffering. No one would want to watch a loved one die in extreme agony, while sitting there not being able to do anything. This feeling of helplessness and despair would almost be unimaginable. Making anyone watch this while hoping for a quick end to his or her loved ones suffering, would be wrong in itself. Although this type of case is rare in the real world is very rare, just one case alone would be argument enough for the use of euthanasia. While the views of many people may be against the use of euthanasia, it sad to say that in all actuality it goes on almost everyday. Many people have heard of doctors who report that they have, out of compassion and mercy, given heavy doses of morphine to relieve the pain and suffering of patients who are near an inevitable death. While doing this, the doctors know perfectly well what the ending result will be, to hasten death. Somehow this is right, since the goal of this is to ease the pain and not actually to kill the patient. But would it not also be right to do the very same thing with the goal of hastening death? While these views and arguments are very interesting and thought provoking there are many more people who believe that euthanasia is wrong. There are majority of people can be separated into

How to Seek Reprint Permission

How to Seek Reprint Permission How to Seek Reprint Permission How to Seek Reprint Permission By Jacquelyn Landis In response to a recent article about quoting copyrighted works, a reader asked about how to secure reprint permission. Whenever you quote a significant enough portion of someone else’s work that it doesn’t fall under the umbrella of fair use, you must seek permission to use it. This used to be a lengthy process involving identifying the copyright holder, finding contact information, writing a detailed letter outlining how you plan to use the quoted material, and then sitting back and waiting. And waiting and waiting. It was a frustrating process, all the more so when the request was denied. The process is much easier today. More and more publishers are using the Copyright Clearance Center, an online service that eases and speeds the process for writers. By using CCC’s Purchase Permissions feature (under the Authors menu option), you can search for published material and find out exactly what kind of reprint rights are allowed, as well as how much they will cost. The drawback to CCC’s service is that not all publishers are on board yet. If you need to secure reprint permission from a publisher that does not use CCC, you might try visiting the publisher’s Web site. Often you’ll find reprint permissions instructions there, and sometimes you can even submit your request through the Web site. Otherwise, you’ll have to do it the old-fashioned way: by writing a letter. In your letter, you must include, at a minimum, the following details: Title and author of the publisher’s book Imprint or division of the publisher’s book ISBN (the International Standard Book Number, located on the copyright page) Title of your book or article Your publisher’s name Format (hardcover, softcover, etc.) Territory of distribution for your book or article (U.S., North America, world, etc.) Print run (total number of copies to be printed) Publication date of your book or article Retail price Your complete contact information It’s important to remember that simply requesting reprint permission is no guarantee it will be granted. The copyright holder has the right to say no. However, you’ll greatly increase your chances of a positive response if you follow instructions carefully and be sure to submit all the required information. Macro5 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Macro5 - Essay Example Every labour market depending on the economy has its own fluctuations and structural characteristics. In addition, every job always retains its core characteristics like working conditions, required qualifications, working hours and compensation. Furthermore, each employee is represented through professional qualifications, personal abilities and work expectations. Practically, employment occurs when an employee and particular position are matched. In any economy, there are situations when some positions remain unfulfilled, qualified workers are unemployed and some workers are not included in the labour force. When employees and positions are matched poorly and those employees remain in labour force, this trend results in both additional vacancies and additional unemployment. Partially, natural rate of rate is determined by the dynamics of new job creation and termination of current jobs because of decision made on microlevel by individual employees and businesses. Therefore, if othe r aspects of the economy remain constant, simultaneous creation and termination of jobs leads to a higher rate of unemployment. In addition, turnover rates among current employed workforce are also associated with higher unemployment, and are significantly influenced by the nature of jobs and the age mix of the adult population. According to McConnell, Brue and Flynn (2008), inflation is defined as the rate at which the general level of prices for goods and services is increasing, and, subsequently, purchasing power of consumers is decreasing. From this definition, it is evident that inflation is a negative economic trend. Indeed, two digit inflation rate indicators in the early 1980s in the United States are a good illustration for â€Å"bad† inflation. General decline in purchasing power, particularly among consumers with fixed income, compromised

Observation of Healthy Adult Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Observation of Healthy Adult - Essay Example The first thing that I noticed was a portable oxygen vaporize. One recognizes that as people age, some of the capacity to utilize oxygen are minimized; so the older one gets, the greater the issue on oxygen deficiency that emerges. Seniors with serious breathing problems take in less oxygen and therefore have less energy to conduct daily life; as manifested by this elderly man. As one observed, he exhibited feeling tired, anxious, and depressed. However, despite his apparent predicament, I also could not help but noticed his cheerful smile. He was sitting alone when he asked me a question about his mobile phone. It is funny how technological developments through telecommunication gadgets have encompassed a wider range of age groups, including the elderly. As I was observing him, I noticed he could read very small prints from his phone manual even without his glasses; whereas I was almost squinting when I read those texts. When asked how he managed to maintain his good eye sight, he told me that eating the right kind and amount of healthy foods is the secret. I realized that he was right. The elderly should have proper nutrition with diet rich in dark-green vegetables and have adequate sleep to maintain good eyesight. However, I noticed that behind his smile, he was feeling melancholy; especially when he complained about some personnel in Bristal who were apparently mean to him. He mentioned that everybody was ignoring him and nobody was taking care of the wound on his foot. A reflective mood led him to disclose that his life had greatly changed when he became a widower after 40 years of sharing good memories with his wife. The story progressed to mentioning a daughter who is a speech therapist in a nearby school (which he could not remember the name). He was so proud of her and beamed that I look almost exactly like her. He showed me some of his coin tricks and he also pretended to show his hand and pull his thumb apart. He

Immigration Policy Of America Politics Essay

Immigration Policy Of America Politics Essay Immigration has been part of legislation since the founding of the nation. In 1790, Congress established a process saying ones that are born in the United States become citizens automatically. The first federal law was passed in 1875 limiting immigration qualification in order to prohibit the entry of criminals and prostitutes. Currently, there are two forms of immigration: permanent admission and temporary admission. The ones that are allowed permanent admission are granted permanent resident and a green card. Permanent residents are allow working in the United States and are able to file for citizenship. In 2004, there were about 946,000 people that were admitted to the United States as a permanent resident. Temporary admission is for foreigners who want entry to the United States for a limited of time on behalf of a specific purpose such as visiting families, tourism, temporary work, or school. These people are classified as nonimmigrants. Temporary admissions are not allowed to a pply for United States citizenship. If they want to apply for citizenship through naturalization, they need to submit an additional application for permanent resident before they can do so. In 2004, 5 million people were granted temporary admission. Immigration policy in the United States reflects many goals. First, it serves to reunite many families by admitting family members from foreign countries. Second, due to labor shortage, United States can admit ones with a specific skill to fill up positions in occupations. Third, it provides a shelter for people that face the risk of political or religious persecution from their own country. Lastly, by letting people from foreign countries immigrate to United States, it allows us to become a more diverse nation. Even though United States has goals for immigrations, there are still many rules and regulations involved; not anyone can just enter United States and become permanent or temporary residents. United States may deny visas or admission on either the temporary admission or permanent admission for many reasons. Some reasons may be because of criminal records, health records, or terrorism concerns. Immediate family members of a United States citizens are allow immigrating to the U nited States without many limitations. Citizens of the United States are allowed to sponsor relatives for permanent residents under the family-sponsored preference program. According to Garnett Hardin in his paper called Lifeboat Ethnics: The Case against Helping the Poor, he thinks that United States should simply not provide aid to people in the poor countries. Hardin started out his essay with a metaphor comparing the earth to a grand spaceship. Hardin said, Since we all share life on this planetà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ no single person or institution has the right to destroy, waste, or use more than a fair share of its resources (402). Hardin is more practical rather than liberal. He imagined United States as a lifeboat and the people that are out in the ocean are the ones that want to immigrate to United States. Hardin says, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦we must recognize the limited capacity of any lifeboat. A nations land has a limited capacity to support a population and as the current energy crisis has shown us, in some ways we have already exceeded the carrying capacity of our land (403). The way that Hardin think is correct. United States have more people being born each day then people dying; if United States accepts anyone as an immigrant, the nation would not have enough land to support them. Furthermore, there are many lazy people in this world. As what Hardin was saying, lets assume that we have a fifty people capacity on our lifeboat. To be generous, we can make room for ten more making the total capacity of sixty people. If we can make room for ten more, then we would need to make room for the rest of them also. Pretty soon, the lifeboat is going to overfill and everyone can possibly drown. To make that short, if we take one person into the nation, we would need to take the rest. There is no point letting them into our nation if they are not going to make any contributions. I believe that United States should only take immigrants that can contribute to the nation. Currently, there are many permanent residents in this nation that does not make any contribution whatsoever. Many immigrants have the mentality that if their relatives in the United States are able to sponsor them to come over, then they can sponsor them for the rest of their lives. In my opinion, ones that have an education, have a specific reason to come over to the United States, and ones that can help out the nation are allow becoming permanent residents in the United States. In John Tierneys paper, Angels in America, he believes that the United States immigration policy is too strict causing many immigrants to come illegally. Tierney used his grandfather and an illegal immigrant, Angel Espinoza, as examples. Tierney thinks it is unfair that Espinoza is not allowed to apply for citizenship while others can. Tierney continued onto explaining Espinozas situation. Espinoza left farm just like Tierneys grandfather and came illegally to the United States with little education. Later, he married an American descendant from his native country just like what Tierneys grandfather did. Tierneys grandfather applied for United States citizenship afterward and got approved while Espinoza did not. Espinoza was once caught at the border and violated the law which made him ineligible for a green card and permanent residency. Tierney goes on to explaining how Espinoza and his grandfather both worked hard, chasing the Americans dream, to support their families. Espinoza ha d to go to work every day with the fear of being departed from the United States for working illegally but his grandfather did not had to go through that. Tierney believes that if one is willing to work to achieve their goals then they should be treated equally. Tierney said, Id like to see Republicans on Capitol Hill explain to Espinoza why hes less deserving than their immigrant ancestors, but thats probably too much to expect. Espinoza has a simpler wish: I would like them to tell my American daughter why her father cant stay with her' (704). I personally disagree with Tierneys idea of immigration. Just because one is hard working does not necessarily mean they deserve to be a United States citizen. I believe that in order to become a United States citizen, one must have a moral character, knowledge of the United States history and government, and willingness to support the United States politically and militarily. Because Espinoza was caught at the border at one point in time, h e does not have the moral character. Tierney stated, Its been argued that Mexicans are different from past immigrants because theyre closer to home and less likely to assimilate. Compared with other immigrants today, theyre less educated, and their children are more likely to get poor grades and drop out of school (703). As I stated before, if one does not have an education, they are less likely able to contribute to the United States and have knowledge of the history and government. There are over a million immigrants that enter the United States legally or illegally each year. Having immigrants allow employers to have cheap labor but in the meantime, as David Masci stated, American workers suffer because the newcomers take jobs and suppress wage levels. Many people also argued that native-born people are unwilling to do low-wage jobs but that has been proven wrong. According to Mark Krikorian, an executive director of the Center of Immigration Studies, said in the article Debate Over Immigration, In parts of the country with few immigrants, low-wage jobs still get done, and by native-born people. Americans are not unwilling to do such jobs, but we prefer not to do so. If these immigrants did not take these low-wage positions, native-born Americans will be forced to take these types of jobs. Krikorian also said, Employers could find Americans to do these jobs if they wanted to, but theyd have to provide training and raise wages to do so. It is just easier to all ow immigrants to take these positions. There are also arguments stating that immigrants are over-crowding the United States and preventing immigrants already here from assimilating into American society (Masci). Masci also said that immigrants came to United States in the past because they want to be here, but currently, immigrants immigrate here for job opportunities and the concept of freedom. A lot of immigrants from foreign countries have the mentality that if they come to the United States and not able to find a job then they can get governmental aid such as Welfare. I believe that these are the type of people that are not allowed to immigrate to the United States. They do not truly love the country, but instead they want to come here for the freedom and for a better environment. In conclusion, immigration is a problem in the United States. People from foreign countries want to come to the United States for freedom and job opportunities. With all these people coming over and taking jobs from the current Americans, it causes the citizens to suffer. The extra people that are immigrating to the United States are overcrowding the nation. It is making it harder for new immigrants to adapt to and experience the American society when there are so many new immigrants coming into the nation each year. United States need a more strict immigration policy in order to keep out all the criminals and prevent terrorism. I highly agree with Garnett Hardins view of immigration where we should keep out as many immigrants as possible, and I strongly disagree with Tierneys view of immigration. He thinks that the policy right now is too strict causing people to come illegally. Without a strict policy, our nation would be in more danger due to criminals and terrorism.
